Lesson 2 - Genealogy

It took me quite a while to do this project.  But I finally found someone through aid of my grandmother.  It is my great grandfather.  I couldn't find my grandfather, though, which I find odd.

One interesting fact that I found out is that on this census, it says that Nelson Hauber was born in Pennsylvania.  But in actuality he was born in Wileysville, Steuben County, New York.  Wileysville is very close to the Pennsylvania state line and that it is not on the map and doesn't have a post office.  I know I have the right man because the other information checks out.

  1. One of the joys of Genealogy is the misspelled name or the missing info - my family name is spelled in so many ways it is really hard to know sometimes - and in some of the older census data one census will have them in one state and the next in another even though the farm hadn't moved. I can't tell for sure if that is a boundary change that then reverted in the 3rd census or just inaccurate data :-)

  2. I've encountered cases where a family member was visiting another for a holiday and they were counted as a household member on the census. Thanks Haubershire Valley for taking the time to explore this genealogy resource and I hope you will find reason to show this to a patron in your library.
